How we Cope - Cravings

Today's stress is a trigger for unresolved stress from our past. These triggers activate our stress response. Our Stress Response causes us to look for ways to feel better. This is where comfort food comes in.

I use to say some of us our emotional eaters. Then I realized, we are all emotional eaters! Why? Simple. We won't eat something that doesn't taste good. Comfort food gives us comfort... makes us feel better.

In my experience, this does not only have to be carbs. It could also be salty foods... crunchy foods... or even fatty foods.
Because of food additives and flavor enhancers, these foods taste even better! The problem is these additives and enhancers disturb our taste buds.

What we do is identify which foods are a stress to the body, where the stress affects the body, check for an associated life situation and release the trigger effect on the body. Many clients feel a change in the desire for such foods and the taste is often less exciting than it was before.

In addition, other non-food coping mechanisms can be identified and released as well. Common coping strategies are avoidance of the stressor and when that is not possible, anger and aggression may occur to change the situation to be what is desired to be.
